Pak Army comes to rescue as Lath, Thado dams overflow after rain batters Karachi
RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – The Lath and Thado dams have overflowed in Kirthar regions after heavy rains in Karachi, Pakistan Army teams have reached to help the civilians.
According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), there was severe flood situation near the Northern Bypass and Malir River as Lath dam overflowed.
According to ISPR, 70 teams of Pakistan Army and Rangers were assisting the civil administration. These teams were carrying out relief activities in the affected areas.
Army Rescue Teams were evacuating the victims in Quaid-e-Abad in Army Engineers boats, said ISPR.
Rain affected areas include DHA, Gizri, Kemari, North Karachi, Nazimabad, Saddar, Landhi, Airport, University Road, Faisal Base, Jinnah Terminal, Saadi Town, Quaid-e-Abad, Yousuf Goth, PAF Faisal, PAF Masroor and Gulshan Johar.
According to ISPR, Army engineers built a 200-meter-long and 4 feet-high embankment. The purpose of the dam is to save M9 and control the flow of water. Three teams of Army were working on Mehran Nullah to save K-electric grid.
