KARACHI (Dunya News) - Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar has said that a budget of billions of rupees will be allocated for the cleaning of Karachi. An operation will be launched from Monday to remove encroachments on major drains of the city.
Addressing a function in Karachi, Federal Minister for Planning Asad Umar said that most of the humanitarian agencies are in Karachi and perhaps no one else does as much welfare work as the Memon community in Karachi. Karachi is the hub of the economy. Its development is the development of the country. The committee is working on the development of the city, he added.
The Federal Minister said that the work of removing encroachments on 3 major nullahs of Karachi, Gujar, Malir and Lyari will start from Monday. In this regard, NDMA has started its work, this opportunity is only for a limited time and work should start as soon as possible.
Asad Omar said that the development of the construction sector is necessary to create more and more employment opportunities in the country as this sector not only creates massive employment opportunities but also leads to the development of related ancillary industries.
The Federal Minister said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has a special interest in the development of the construction industry. That is why he personally contacted the IMF MD over the phone to provide incentives and facilities to the construction sector. There is a shortage of more than 10 million houses in Pakistan. No matter how many industries there are, every industry has a connection with the construction industry and no one else, he said.
He said that while opening the Coronavirus Lockdown, the government faced several objections, the construction industry and the opening of mosques were the most debated and objections were raised.Programs and articles were written in the United States and Australia that mosques have been opened in Pakistan.
However, it is an undeniable fact that most of the Coronavirus SOPs were implemented and followed in hospitals and mosques. Earlier, a meeting of the coordination committee of the federal and Sindh governments on Karachi was held in which emphasis was laid on speeding up the work of the federal government.
A meeting of the coordination committee comprising federal and provincial ministers was held at the Chief Minister s House in Sindh in which Federal Ministers Asad Umar, Ali Zaidi and Amin-ul-Haq, while Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Education Minister Saeed Ghani and Local Government Minister Nasir Shah participated.
The meeting discussed development projects across Sindh including Karachi, the situation created by rains in Karachi, cleaning of drains in future and other issues.
The provincial ministers called for speeding up the ongoing work by the federation in other districts of Sindh as well.
