Five people die due to electrocution in rain-hit Karachi
KARACHI (Dunya News) - Five people, including a child, were killed in electrocution accidents during Friday’s monsoon rain in Karachi. Sindh’s energy minister has taken notice of the incidents and demanded a report from the authorities.
The isolated incidents happened in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Mewa Shah graveyard, City Court, Civil Hospital Main Road and Hub Chowki Jam Colony.
The provincial Energy Minister has contacted the heads of HESCO, SEPCO and K-Electric and demanded a report on the incidents.
Imtiaz Sheikh has directed that those responsible be identified immediately and a report be submitted, saying that the people are suffering the consequences of K-Electric, HESCO and SEPCO’s incompetence.
He offered that the Sindh government would assist family members wanting to register an FIR against those responsible and said that people of Sindh cannot be left at the mercy of such incompetent institutions.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has predicted that the fourth spell of monsoon rain in Karachi is likely to weaken soon. Light to medium rain is expected at night while light rain is expected on Saturday.
The Meteorological Department says the rain system which entered the city on Friday will exit by Saturday night.
