Govt could enforce FATF laws through Presidential Ordinance: Fawad Chaudhry

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry on Tuesday said the government could enforce FATF laws through a Presidential ordinance if it is unable to arrive at a consensus with the opposition.

Fawad Chaudhry said the laws passed by the ordinance would remain in force for six months, during which the government and opposition could finally find some common ground.

Talking to Dunya News program "Dunya Kamran Khan Kay Saath", he said that he believes the process of collaboration between the government and the opposition should succeed. He said that NAB laws need to be revisited and tax matters should be taken out of the purview of NAB.

Fawad Chaudhry further said that the reason behind the deadlock with the opposition is that it seeks relief for their leadership.

He said the 35 points of the opposition’s demands encircle their single objective of abolishing the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) despite the fact that all the cases in NAB were framed against them during their respective rival governments

To a question about the Opposition’s concerns regarding human rights issues in NAB laws, Fawad Chaudhry said that objections on such issues could be addressed mutually but there must be some common points of priority between the Opposition and the government to take it forward.
