Govt seeks extension in NAB chairman's tenure
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The government, while proposing to the opposition, has said that it wants to extend the tenure of Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal.
According to details, the federal government has submitted the proposed amendment to the NAB law to the opposition.
Chairman Parliamentary Committee on Legislation Shah Mahmood Qureshi confirmed that the draft has been handed over to the opposition and the government has proposed several amendments to the NAB Act.
The government proposal states that a NAB case against a public office holder and a government office holder will be made only if there is evidence of illicit gain.
A NAB case will not be made against any public office holder who will act in good faith. The term of office of the Chairman, Deputy Chairman and the Prosecutor General may be extended.
The proposals further state that the term of office of the Chairman NAB is four years as per the existing NAB Act while the term of office of the Deputy Chairman and the Prosecutor General is three years. The government wants to extend the tenure of the chairman, deputy chairman and prosecutor general.
According to the government s proposal, the court will provide the accused with the copies of the reference and levy tax and excise matters will be transferred to the concerned agencies of the NAB.
