Oppo A72 5G goes official with Dimensity 720 SoC and 90Hz screen
(Web Desk) - After announcing the A72 back in April Oppo today unveiled its 5G model, dubbed Oppo A72 5G. But this isn’t just an A72 supporting next-gen networks. We are looking at many differences between the 4G and 5G variants.
For starters, the A72 5G is powered by the freshly announced Dimensity 720 SoC while the 4G model has a Snapdragon 665 chipset under the hood. Both smartphones pack 6.5" FullHD+ LCDs, but the A72 5G comes with a 90Hz panel as opposed to the non-5G variant’s 60Hz screen.
While the network connectivity and screen are upgraded, the camera department gets a downgrade. The A72 features a total of five cameras - a 16MP selfie camera on the front and a quad camera setup at the back comprising 48MP main, 8MP ultrawide, 2MP macro, and 2MP depth sensor units.
But the A72 5G, on the other hand, has an 8MP shooter on the front with the back housing a camera setup that’s a combination of 16MP primary, 8MP ultrawide and 2MP depth modules.
Unlike the A72 that comes with a 5,000 mAh battery, the A72 5G ships with a 4,040 mAh cell that draws power through a USB-C port at up to 18W. It would have been wiser to pack a larger battery since the smartphone supports 5G networks and features a 90Hz screen - both of which can be taxing on the battery.
Other highlights of the Oppo A72 5G include Android 10-based ColorOS 7.2, Dirac 2.0 sound enhancements, side-mounted fingerprint reader, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The A72 5G is offered in three colors and comes in a single 8GB RAM + 128GB storage configuration that’s priced at CNY1,899 ($270/€230). It’s already up for pre-orders in China through the company’s official site, with sales beginning on July 31.
