MQM-P calls off protest against K-Electric over load shedding

Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said one should dare to go to areas from where bills are not being paid.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has called-off the protest that the party had earlier started in protest against the Karachi Electric Supply Company (K-Electric) over prolonged power outages.

Addressing the protesters in Karachi on Tuesday, MQM-P convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said, “we are with the federal government and the government s job is to provide resources to the K-Electric, adding that it is also the government s job to respond if resources are not being utilized.

Siddiqui said that one should dare to go to the areas from where bills are not being paid, adding that the agreement of K-Electric should be brought fore while HESCO and SEPCO should also be looked into as their problems are also serious.

“HESCO and SEPCO are the direct responsibility of the federal government,” he said and added the minister should check from where they were getting instructions. “There is need to review what NEPRA has been doing for the last 12 years,” he added.

He thanked Minister for Energy Omar Ayub Khan and Minister for Planning, Development & Special Initiatives Asad Umar for coming to the sit-in and called off the protest.
