Flour becomes scarce following drop in price

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The decreasing price of flour came with an unexpected caveat for the consumers as 20kg bags of flour are nowhere to be found in the market. Instead, flour mills have introduced 25kg bags as a replacement.

According to details, the government is struggling to ensure availability of flour at fixed rates and mills are unable to meet demand in Lahore markets. Flour mills have found a workaround to the government’s directive to sell 20kg bags of flour at fixed price by introducing new 25 kg flour bags at Rs 1350.

The government had started supplying cheaper wheat to flour mills from government reserves and the flour millers also promised to sell a 20 kg bag of flour at Rs 860 and not Rs 1030.

While a 20 kg bag for Rs 860 is extremely rare in the market, even the 10 kg bags of flour are available in limited quantities only.

People’s hopes of acquiring cheaper flour after the government’s notice have been dashed by the actions of Flour Mills, who have used manipulative market practices to maximize their own profits.
