Covid-19 cases could spike if SOPs not followed on Eidul Azha: Liaquat Shahwani

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Spokesperson for the Balochistan government Liaquat Shahwani said that SOPs will be fully implemented on Eidul Azha and there is a danger of further increase in coronavirus cases in the country if SOPs are not followed.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad on Sunday, he said that the pandemic has become a major problem for the nation, adding that the virus spread during Eidul Fitr holidays and over 100,000 cases have been reported in May and June.
Shahwani further said that 41,900 cases have been reported in May and if the cases continue to grow at the same rate, there could be more than 300,000 cases by Eidul Azha.
“If SOPs are followed, there is a danger of more cases on Eidul Azha,” he said.
Briefing about the situation of Coronavirus in Balochistan, he said that 30 to 35 percent cases were reported in the province in June, while more than 4,000 tests were conducted in 11 days and about 600 positive cases were reported.
The spokesperson went on to say that the death rate from Covid-19 in Balochistan is similar to the rest of the country while about 3500 patients are currently in quarantine at home.
