Something must be done against use of delaying tactics in corruption cases: Shahzad Akbar
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Accountability Barrister Shahzad Akbar has said that criminals must appear in court in order to be charged, something needs to be done against the use of delaying tactics in corruption cases.
Talking to Dunya News program "Dunya Kamran Khan Kay Saath", he said that the government is concerned over the long running cases in NAB and it has repeatedly offered help to NAB, which is an independent body.
He said that the decision by Chief Justice to increase the number of courts alone would not solve the problem, but it will lead to a solution. Cases that were buried under the files in the past are now being heard in court, he added.
Shahzad Akbar said that now, the system has changed as the government has increased NAB’s resources despite poor economic conditions. He said that it was in the interest of the government that NAB cases reach their conclusion.
Answering a question, he said we are grateful to the Chief Justice for taking steps to improve judicial affairs. He said that appeals get delayed due to unavailability of written court decisions and this needs to be addressed.
The Special Assistant said he wanted to work with the judiciary to improve the process of recording evidence and legal reforms will also be needed to expedite cases.
