Aim of targeted lockdown to isolate maximum COVID-19 infected cases: Asad Umar
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Federal Minister for Planning Asad Umar has said that the purpose of targeted lockdown was to isolate as many coronavirus cases as possible instead of putting large population under lockdown.
A meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Planning, Development, Reforms and Special Initiatives Asad Umar at the National Command and Operations Center (NCOC) was briefed on the Coronavirus epidemic situation.
The meeting was attended by the Chief Secretaries of the provinces on the latest situation of targeted lockdown across the country, oxygen requirement assessment, review of epidemic statistics, latest status of resource management system and details provided regarding Pak Naghban App were reviewed.
It was informed in the meeting that 549 lockdowns have been carried out across the country. Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) said that there was no administrative problem in implementing Smart Lockdown.
The Additional Chief Secretary Punjab informed the meeting that a large number of positive cases of Coronavirus have come to light in Lahore during the last few days. He said the provincial cabinet committee was formulating future strategies in the wake of the emergence of new Coronavirus hotspots over a wide area.
The Chief Secretary Sindh informed the NCOC that a notification has been issued to stop the action against the employees of the businesses residing in the lockdown areas for their absence. He also informed the meeting about the proposed extension of Smart Lockdown in more affected areas.
The Chief Secretary Balochistan informed the meeting that plans have been made for smart lockdown. Under the plan, only one person will be allowed to go out of the house for necessary purchases.
Chief Secretary Azad Jammu and Kashmir said that complete lockdown has been imposed in 4 districts. Gilgit Baltistan Chief Secretary said that powers have been given at the local level where the Deputy Commissioners have taken effective measures to curb the spread of Coronavirus in the concerned districts.
He said that the recovery rate of Coronavirus patients is about 70%. Out of a total of 1288 cases, 865 affected people have recovered so far.
