Govt announces package of Rs 10 mn for medical staff who die from COVID-19

The financial package has been discussed with provincial health ministers and experts.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The federal government has Friday announced a package of Rs 10 million for medical staff who die from novel coronavirus, Dunya News reported.
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on National Health Services Dr Zafar Mirza held a press conference and said front line workers will be provided tax relief as protection and support of health workers is his priority.
“The financial package, which has been discussed with provincial health ministers and experts, will be for doctors and paramedics fighting against the pandemic. The federal as well as the provincial governments will be responsible for implementation of the special package.
“Our religion says that whoever saves the life of one, it is as if he saves the life of all mankind. The health workers who are performing their duties under such difficult circumstances are our heroes. It is the need of the hour to strictly follow standard operating procedures (SOPs).
“Relatives of some patients try to take law into their own hands if they are not satisfied with treatment and torture doctors as well as medical staff. We have decided to give them foolproof security.
“The government will take responsibility of treatment of the families of medical staff on priority basis at private and public level and health workers will be supported through a helpline.
“The infection ratio among health workers is very high in other countries. They will be tested on priority basis. The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) is providing loans to private hospitals on easy terms and conditions for salaries of staffers.”
