Shehbaz Sharif tests positive for coronavirus

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif has tested positive for novel coronavirus, Dunya News reported on Thursday.
PML-N leader Attaullah Tarar has appealed to the nation to pray for quick recovery of the opposition leader. He said, “Shehbaz Sharif’s life was put in danger by summoning before the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) under such circumstances.”
“The NAB was informed several times that Shehbaz Sharif was a cancer patient and his immunity is weaker than normal people. It was also requested to record his statement through video link.
“Apart from appearing before the NAB, Shehbaz Sharif did not meet or visit anyone else. He has quarantined himself at his Model Town residence and is following the doctors’ advice.
“Prime Minister Imran Khan and the anti-corruption watchdog will be responsible if something happens to the opposition leader.”
PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb said Shehbaz Sharif was tested positive for COVID-19 last night and has isolated himself at home.
“Shehbaz Sharif remained a cancer patient and the NAB was repeatedly informed about his health. The anti-graft body was also requested to record his statement via video link. He was getting himself tested regularly,” she said.
Let it be known that PML-N Member National Assembly Ahsan Iqbal, PTI MNAs Dr Ramesh Kumar and Farukh Habib, JUI-F MNA Shahida Akhtar Ali, MQM MNA Usama Qadri and Senator Sana Jamali earlier contracted COVID-19 and all of them quarantined themselves.
On the other hand, Pakistan has confirmed 101 deaths by novel coronavirus in one day and the number of positive cases has surged to 119,536. The nationwide tally of fatalities has jumped to 2,356.
According to the latest figures by the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), record 5,834 persons have been tested positive for COVID-19 in 24 hours.
Till now 45,463 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Punjab, 43,709 in Sindh, 15,206 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 7,335 in Balochistan, 6,236 in Islamabad, 1,018 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 488 in Azad Kashmir.
Furthermore, 841 individuals have lost their lives to the epidemic in Punjab, 738 in Sindh, 619 in KP, 73 in Balochistan, 62 in Islamabad, 14 in GB and 9 in Azad Kashmir.
Pakistan has so far conducted 780,825 coronavirus tests and 26,573 in last 24 hours. 38,391 coronavirus patients have recovered in the country whereas many are in critical condition.
