Punjab CM urges measures to avert locust attack

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar has directed the departments to make advance arrangements for a possible locust attack in mid-June and July.

The instructions issued by Usman Buzdar said that funds of Rs. 1 billion have been released for eradication of locusts and protection of crops. The CM has also issued instructions to estimate the damage to the crops by locust.

He said that all possible steps are being taken to control the locust attacks. Along with aerial spray, ground vehicles are also being used to spry the crops.

Usman Buzdar said that continuous steps are being taken to control locust. More than 756,000 acres have been sprayed. Locust monitoring is underway in the affected districts. Locusts are being monitored on a daily basis to control their attacks on crops, he added

He said that in the current situation, the concerned departments and agencies have to be vigilant at all times. Control rooms have been set up at the divisional and district level. These control rooms are monitoring the situation at all times. All resources are being utilized to protect the farmers from loss, he added.
