ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Federal Minister Tariq Bashir Cheema has said that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has become an institution of political engineering and if a new Pandora s box is opened, the NAB chairman’s character will be affected.
Speaking exclusively to Dunya News, the senior Pakistan Muslim League Quaid (PML-Q) leader and Federal Minister said that he has informed the Prime Minister about his concerns regarding NAB and he has been assured by the PM that he will get to the bottom of this matter.
He further said that chairman NAB will have to tell that at whose behest did he start this campaign against them? Cheema said that it is unimportant whether the Prime Minister can ask the chairman NAB or not, we are allies, it is the responsibility of Imran Khan to inform them.
Tariq Bashir Cheema said that the previously closed cases being opened in such haste shows that there is a deeper story behind it. He said that old cases are being reopened under new numbers behind closed doors and we will not allow it; we do not want this Pandora s Box to be opened, he added.
The Federal Minister further said that if this Pandora s Box is opened, Chairman NAB himself will be harmed. He said that there is no discussion about separation from the government; we have the right to ask Prime Minister Imran Khan who is behind it because NAB has become an institution of political engineering.
Earlier in the day, Cheema called on Prime Minister Imran Khan in Islamabad.
During the meeting, the federal minister informed the prime minister of the concerns of PML-Q regarding opening of 20 years old cases.
Sources said that the PML-Q demanded PM Imran to investigate the matter whether the NAB chairman opened the cases on his own or someone’s instructions.
Tariq Bashir Cheema said that PM Imran Khan has assured him of digging to the bottom of the matter.
