15% of Punjab's wheat crop already harvested, CM informed

Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar chaired the videolink meeting

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar has been informed during a briefing that about 15% of the wheat crop in Punjab has been harvested.

This was told during a cabinet committee meeting convened by video link to review measures to prevent coronavirus, chaired by Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar.

The meeting was attended by Provincial Ministers Raja Basharat, Mian Aslam Iqbal, Dr Yasmin Rashid, Chief Secretary, Inspector General of Police, Commissioner Lahore Division, Secretary Finance, Secretary Specialized Health Care and Medical Education, Secretary Primary and Secondary Health Care, Information Secretary, Security officials as well as other concerned officials.

Senior Member Board of Revenue, Additional Chief Home Secretary, Chief Executive Officer Urban Unit, Secretary Local Government and Community Development, Director General Provincial Disaster Management Authority, Secretary Planning and Development, Secretary Labor, Secretary Industries, Secretary Food and Chairman Punjab Information Technology Board also participated in the meeting through videolink.

The meeting reviewed the treatment facilities for the affected patients and steps taken after lockdown extension were also discussed.

The meeting also reviewed progress on the availability and procurement of protective kits for doctors, nurses and paramedical staff.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister was briefed that 78 new cases of coronavirus have been reported in Punjab and one patient has passed away in the last 24 hours. The total number of affected patients in Punjab is currently 3465, the CM was told.

Speaking on the occasion, Provincial Law Minister Raja Basharat said that doctors  issues will be resolved on a priority basis and discussions with the doctors have been useful.

Provincial Minister Mian Aslam Iqbal said that implementation of social distancing SOPs in centers will be ensured during the wheat procurement campaign. He said that about 15% of wheat has already been harvested in Punjab.

Provincial Health Minister Dr. Yasmin Rashid said that patients of the virus are being quality care in Punjab. Travelers coming from overseas will be quarantined and tested for the coronavirus, she added.

Provincial Health Minister further said that quarantine centers and isolation wards have been established in a timely manner due to effective measures of the Punjab Government.
