Country cannot sustain an indefinite lockdown: DG ISPR

DG ISPR also said that Ulema showed great responsibility in this situation
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Major General Babar Iftikhar, Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) of the Pak Army has said that the country is not in a position to impose total lockdown for an indefinite period of time.
Addressing a media briefing with the Prime Minister s Special Assistant on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan in the federal capital, DG ISPR also thanked Ulema across the country for raising awareness in the public and paid tribute to those working on the frontline against the deadly virus.
Major General Babar Iftikhar thanked the country’s Ulema who conveyed a message of unity to the whole nation during these critical and serious times, saying that the fight against the coronavirus should not lead to xenophobia.
DG ISPR said that the Ulema showed great responsibility in this situation as any good Muslim’s foremost duty is to protect those around him.
He said that the government is taking timely steps and all possible actions are being taken on a daily basis as per the changing situation. The coronavirus has changed the global environment, he added.
Major General Babar Iftikhar was also thankful to all para-medical staff, doctors and law enforcement agency officials for carrying out their responsibilities in this difficult time. He said that the country needs extended support from the media to win this battle.
DG ISPR further said that all information and announcements are communicated by all provinces to the National Command and Operation Center, which is operating under the National Coordination Committee (NCC) and is a one-window center, headed by Federal Minister Asad Omar.
Major General Babar Iftikhar appealed to the public to stay home and stay safe. He said that the Pak Army is providing full support to the provincial governments, and is stationed all over the country.
