Coronavirus cases in Pakistan surge to 299

Pakistan on Wednesday reported first two deaths in the country from the novel coronavirus.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Pakistan rose to 299 on Wednesday after more people were diagnosed with the novel coronavirus disease across the country.

According to details, 208 patients have been tested positive for the epidemic in Sindh, 33 in Punjab, 17 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 23 in Balochistan, four in Islamabad, 13 in Gilgit-Baltistan and one in Azad Kashmir.

On the other hand, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday reported Pakistan’s first two deaths from the novel coronavirus. According to KP Health Minister one of the patients, a 36-year-old resident of Hangu, being treated at LRH Peshawar has passed away.

Second victim of coronavirus, 50-year-old Sadaat Khan, who was receiving treatment at Mardan Medical Complex (MMC) passed away. The patient had returned from Saudi Arabia a week ago.

Pakistan borders China and Iran, both of which have been hit hard by the virus. Most of the people with infections had recently traveled to Iran, though Pakistan reported its first locally contracted case on Friday.

The government shut all its schools and land borders on Friday and decided to limit international flights and discourage large gatherings to try to halt the spread of the coronavirus.
