Coronavirus broke out in Pakistan due to PIA, govt: CJP Gulzar
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Gulzar Ahmed on Wednesday has said that the country is suffering from coronavirus due to the incompetence of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and incumbent government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). During the hearing of a case pertaining to the appointment of Air Marshal Arshad Malik as PIA’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the top judge stated that the government has not taken any concrete step to curb the spread of coronavirus in the country. We have been requested to halt judicial proceedings but the courts will not be shut at any cost, he clarified. Justice Gulzar further asserted that the situation at the quarantine centers in Pakistan is terrible as no facilities are being provided to the patients. The reaction came after federal government had requested the CJP and high courts judges to avoid hearing civil cases for three weeks due to the coronavirus outbreak. Law ministry had written a letter to Supreme Court (SC) registrar and informed about the recent decisions taken in National Security Committee meeting. The officials further urged the CJP to direct judicial magistrates and session courts judges to visit jails for the cases seeking bails and remands of the suspects.
