Nine more coronavirus cases reported in Karachi, toll in Pakistan jumps to 16

Six coronavirus infected persons reached Karachi from Syria via Doha and three from London via Dubai

KARACHI (Dunya News) - Nine more persons have been tested positive for the deadly coronavirus in Karachi in a single day on Monday, taking the total number of the COVID-19 infections in the country to 16, Dunya News reported.

Sindh Health Department has confirmed nine new cases of coronavirus in Karachi, taking the number of patients in the province to 13. One patient has successfully recovered and has been sent home while 12 are still under treatment.

According to sources, six persons infected with coronavirus reached Karachi from Syria via Doha while three other arrived in the city from London via Dubai.

Special assistant to the prime minister on National Health Services Dr Zafar Mirza said on his official Twitter handle on Monday that the number of coronavirus patients reached 16 after nine more cases were reported in Karachi.

Zafar Mirza informed that the new patients who have been tested positive for the mysterious disease remained in contact with patient who was already confirmed positive for the disease.

He further said that all those persons who remained in contact with patients infected with the coronavirus are being traced.

The virus that first originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year the number of novel coronavirus cases globally stood at 114,268, including 4,009 deaths, across 113 countries and territories

The World Health Organisation last week raised the global virus risk to maximum level after the outbreak spread to sub-Saharan Africa and stock markets around the world plummeted.
