Disrespectful treatment of women on any media platform is completely unacceptable
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said on Thursday that the incident involving social activist Marvi Sirmed and writer Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar was condemnable and that the media should exercise more responsibility in such sensitive matters. Disrespectful treatment of women on any media platform is completely unacceptable.
In a statement released on Twitter, she said that the seerah of Hazrat Fatima (R.A) is a guiding light for all muslim women and the incumbent government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan, is against exploitation of women in any form. It aims to secure the constitutional, legal, political, social and economic rights of women. Steps such as Inheritance Law for women and passing of Zainab Alert Bill through parliament are shining examples of the government’s commitment towards women’s rights.
Previously, Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar had stirred yet another controversy after using abusive language against his fellow female panelist, Marvi Sirmed on a live television show prompting criticism from all quarters.
