Zalmay Khalilzad, COAS Bajwa discuss Afghan peace process

Matters pertaining to mutual interest including overall regional security situation were discussed

RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – US Special Representative for Afghan Reconciliation, Zalmay Khalilzad on Monday called on Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa at GHQ.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), matters pertaining to mutual interest including overall regional security situation and ongoing Afghan reconciliation process came under discussion during the meeting.

Earlier, the US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation also held a meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan in Islamabad.

During the meeting, matters pertaining to regional security situation came under discussion.

Previously, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that Pakistan will continue its efforts for political settlement of Afghan conflict.

Talking to US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad, he said Islamabad will continue to support an Afghan-owned and Afghan-led peace process for regional stability.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that Pakistan will prepare a comprehensive timeline framework for honorable repatriation of all Afghan refugees.

Speaking on the occasion, Zalmay Khalilzad appreciated the Pakistan s efforts for regional peace and stability, and said Islamabad hosted Afghan refugees for four decades with open mind.
