ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – A report on the implementation of the Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) orders for the appointment of members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) from Sindh and Balochistan has been submitted on Monday.
The appointment of Nasir Durrani and Shah Mohammad Jatoi as members of the election commission from Sindh and Balochistan, respectively, were confirmed, according to the report.
“The matter was left with the parliament to deal with, however, parliament’s dignity must be observed,” IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah remarked, adding if the country could only get stronger if state organs perform their duties within their jurisdiction. “All of us need to think beyond our egos.”
“Who is the executive answerable to?” the court asked advocate Mohsin Ranjha during the hearing. To this, Mr Ranjha replied that the executive was answerable to the court.
“The country will prosper if the parliament gets stronger,” the court added.
The ECP has become fully functional after retired bureaucrat Sikandar Sultan Raja has taken oath as the new Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and appointments of members from Sindh and Balochistan.
The new CEC will administer oath to Nisar Durrani and Shah Mohammad Jatoi as ECP members from Sindh and Balochistan, respectively.
