Uncasville (Reuters) - Miss America is now a scientist. Virginia’s Camille Schrier, who holds degrees in biochemistry and systems biology, won the annual competition on Thursday
Dubbed Miss America 2.0, the 98-year old beauty pageant was revamped - the swimsuit competition was eliminated and categories focused more on the contestants’ achievements, talents, and intelligence.
"I’m so excited about Miss America 2.0, because we’ve taken the focus away from our bodies and been able to show exactly what women can offer that’s outside their appearance," said Schrier, who demonstrated the "catalytic decomposition of hydrogen peroxide" for her talent portion.
Schrier was awarded a $50,000 scholarship and will hold the Miss America title for all of 2020.
