Joint Action Committee to file application in LHC for release of arrested lawyers

Police teams have been tasked to arrest the lawyers who were involved in the attack.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Joint Action Committee (JAC) – formed by the lawyers’ bodies after holding an emergency meeting to devise the next course of action in the escalated clash with doctors – on Thursday met Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice-designate Justice Mamoon Rashid Sheikh to discuss the matter.
Following yesterday’s violent clash between the doctors of the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) and lawyers, police teams have been tasked to arrest the lawyers who were involved in the attack.
The representatives of Pakistan Bar Council, Supreme Court Bar, Lahore High Court Bar and Lahore Bar have been included in the committee.
Pakistan Bar Council members Ahsan Bhoon, Azam Nazir Tarar, Supreme Court Bar Secretary Shameem-ur-Rehman Malik, Supreme Court Bar Vice-President Ghulam Murtaza Chaudhry, Lahore High Court Bar President Hafizur Rehman Chaudhry, Lahore Bar President Asim Cheema, Lahore Bar Secretary Maqsood Khokhar, Lahore High Court Bar Secretary Fayyaz Ranjha, Vice-President Kabir Ahmed Chaudhry and Finance Secretary Ansar Jamil Gujjar are included in the committee.
The JAC has demanded an immediate release of the detained lawyers, and has approached the LHC CJ-designate Justice Mamoon Rashid Sheikh for requesting him for release of the lawyers.
Importantly, the committee has decided to file an application with the LHC today, and hearing of the application is expected to be held today.
Following the call of the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA), lawyers in Lahore are observing a strike against manhandling of their colleagues by police during clash with doctors at the PIC.
