MOSCOW (Reuters) - There is an art to making food, but one Russian artist has flipped the script and used food to create his art.
Anonymous Moscow street artist, known only as ‘Zoom’, has revealed a large portrait of a woman’s face made entirely of croutons - forty thousand grilled bread cubes to be specific - at a deli in the Russian capital.
The 3x3 meter work, commissioned for the cafe Pan Zapikan, or Mr Cheese Pie, took a month and a half to complete and imitates bitmap portraiture.
Cafe visitors on Wednesday (November 27) voiced delight when they realised the art was made from actual bread cubes.
"I had a delicious cheese pie and coffee and started thinking - what kind of a mosaic is it. It looks so similar to grilled bread! It is such a delight! These really are (grilled bread cubes). I really liked it! It amazed me!" said one visitor, Anna Pinayeva.
The artist that uses the pseudonym ‘Zoom’ practices what he promotes as "street-art without vandalism", he creates humorous images using different techniques that can easily be removed. His art which is uploaded to an Instagram account uses a mixture of mediums, but themes remain playful and with reference to pop culture.
With the artist’s work impressing visitors, the cafe only needs to make sure clientele don’t pick at the croutons.
"How long will it last, how many people would want to pick at it?" asked Pinayeva.
