Authorities shut smoke-emitting cars, factories to prevent air pollution in Lahore

It was decided to immediately shut down the factories and vehicles emitting toxic smoke.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Judicial Commission for Environment today (Nov 27) has decided to bar smoke-emitting vehicles and factories from operating due to rising air pollution in Lahore.
According to details, the Environment Commission held a meeting at the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Headquarters in Gulberg, presided over by the chairman of the commission, Justice (r) Ali Akbar Qureshi to discuss efforts which are underway to control air pollution in Lahore.
Environment and Agriculture Secretaries, DG, DC and other officers attended the session. It was decided to immediately shut down the factories and vehicles emitting toxic smoke.
Justice (r) Qureshi stated that anyone who will be witnessed driving barred cars or violating the decision, will be detained for three days.
Secretary Environment and DG LDA said they will strictly implement the commission’s decisions. A plantation campaign to eradicate pollution is also underway.
At the meeting, the Department of Education was directed to educate students about smog in the schools.
