Plant Protection Department on high alert as swarm of locusts attacks Karachi
KARACHI (Dunya News) – Plant Protection Department on Monday has summoned session to devise strategy for control and prevention of locust swarm attack in Karachi.
According to details, the locust outbreak has badly irked the residents living in Baharabad, Gulshan Iqbal and Korangi while other parts of the metropolis have also witnessed the insect attack.
Meanwhile, locust swarm has interrupted the ongoing Quaid-e-Azam Trophy match in Karachi between Sindh and Northern.The players had to cover their eyes and ears to avoid contact with the swarm.
On the other hand, Sindh Agriculture Minister Muhammad Ismail Raho said that the desert locust activity observed in Malir and adjoining areas of Karachi is part of migration from summer-monsoon breeding zone towards coastal areas of Balochistan and it does not pose any risk to crops. He also told that rescue teams have been sent to the affected area for assistance of the locals.
