RUSSIA (Reuters) - Eighty-three-year-old Russian postal worker Ekaterina Dzalaeva has been walking the same mountain route in Russia’s Caucasus Republic of North Ossetia for over 50 years.

She delivers mail between the settlements of Mizur, Buron and Tsei and used to tread the route, a round trip of around 40 kilometres (25 miles) six days a week.

However, Dzalaeva said she now frequently gets dropped off by passing cars and does not walk as far anymore.

"I find it easier when I’m walking. I find it easier when I chat to people," the postwoman said.

Dzalaeva was inspired as a child by the local postman bringing news from the front during the Second World War.

"I told myself that when I grow up, I’ll definitely become a postwoman. Then people will be waiting for me and they will love me," she said.
