PM Khan orders revision of SOPs to eradicate corruption at check posts

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday directed officials and government agencies concerned to revise standard operating procedures to root out corruption practices at check posts on highways in the country.
Taking notice of rent seeking from goods transport by various government agencies, including Police, Excise and Customs through check posts at national highways, the PM ordered immediate steps to check the practice.
According to a letter written by PM’s Office to the secretaries of interior and narcotics, provincial chief secretaries and other concerned officials, the premier instructed to reduce the number of check posts in coordination with other stakeholders where possible.
He further ordered that the supervisory role should be made effective.
The letter has directed for completing the above exercise by October 5 and submitting a report to PM’s Office.
It further stated after the deadline, a stern action will be initiated against the ground staff of various check posts and supervisory officers.
BoI directed to ease doing businesses
On the other hand, PM Khan directed the Board of Investment (BoI) to expedite efforts for ensuring ease of doing business and doing away with unnecessary approvals and regulations.
He chaired a meeting in Islamabad in which he was briefed about the steps taken to facilitate small and medium enterprises.
The PM directed that special emphasis should also be given to the matters pertaining to contract enforcement and for further organising the land revenue record.
PM Khan said the federal government was fully striving to use all available resources to run the institutions and system on modern lines, and for this purpose, latest technology would be used.
On the occasion, the chairman of the BoI briefed the premier about measures taken so far to facilitate the SMEs.
The premier was informed that a small and medium enterprises policy 2019-24 was being formulated.
The meeting was told that the work has been started to computerise whole process of approvals and registration for the people desiring to start their own small and medium enterprises. The aim is to simplify the procedures, ensure transparency and end red tapism.
