Sutlej flood warning: Punjab CM Buzdar chairs emergency meeting.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Sardar Usman Buzdar on Monday chaired a high-level emergency meeting after India released at least two lakh cusecs water from its barrages and dams into the River Sutlej without prior information.

The session made an in-depth analysis of the situation and deliberated on precautionary measures which are needed be taken after the flooding alert by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

Usman Buzdar directed the authorities to ensure safe evacuation of people from the endangered area and provision of all necessary items including food and medicines at the relief camps.

He instructed the provincial ministers, Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Director General (DG) and irrigation secretary to remain present in the respective areas to monitor the situation, and maintained that he can personally visit any district.

The chief minister advised the officials to remain in touch with the federal bodies to deal with the emergency and advised to keep a close eye on the flow of water. Food and vaccinations for the animals should also be provided, he said.

Sardar Usman Buzdar was told in the briefing that 81 relief camps have been built in Kasur and other districts.

It is worth mentioning here that CM Usman Buzdar worked late into night and monitored the rescue work beforehand himself. He issued important directives to the administration and other relevant staff.

Let it be known that the NDMA had reported that 150,000 to 200,000 cusecs water from Indian Punjab will enter Ganda Singh Wala, a border village near Kasur, during next 12 to 24 hours.
