Fake accounts case: Court sends Asif Ali Zardari to jail on judicial remand.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – An Accountability Court (AC) in Islamabad on Friday sent former president and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari to Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail on judicial remand till August 19 in fake accounts case.

AC Judge Muhammad Bashir conducted the hearing. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor told the court that development has been made in the case as another suspect has recorded statement. The NAB sought extension in the physical remand of the PPP co-chairman which was rejected.

Let it be known that Asif Ali Zardari was presented before the Accountability Court amidst beefed up security on completion of his physical remand. The AC had directed the anti-graft body to complete its investigations during the eight-day physical remand which was granted in the previous hearing.

It is worth mentioning here that a 62-day physical remand of Asif Ali Zardari had already been completed in the fake accounts and money laundering reference. Furthermore, the court directed the anti-corruption watchdog authorities to produce the erstwhile president before it on August 19.

Air conditioner

Asif Ali Zardari’s counsels filed petition for provision of an air conditioner to the former president in the jail along with other facilities. The personal staff of Asif Zardari also shifted a bed, mattress and air cooler to the jail.

The jail authorities did not allow the equipments to go inside owing to security reasons and maintained that the furnishings will only be permitted after scanning.
