Federal cabinet approves PCB's new constitution.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The federal cabinet approved the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) new constitution which has ended the role of departmental teams from the domestic circuit.

The federal cabinet meeting – chaired by PCB Patron-in-Chief Prime Minister Imran Khan – was held on Friday (yesterday). The Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) had forwarded the draft for approval.

According to details, the departmental teams will not be the part of first-class cricket from now onwards, however, the sponsorship right still remains with the departments.

Six teams – Punjab, South Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Balochistan and Capital Areas – will play the first-class tournament as per the new constitution. Furthermore, one team from each region will participate in three-day matches of the Grade-II tournament.

It is worth mentioning here that PM Imran Khan was already in favor of a domestic structure based on regions instead of departments, and had directed the authorities to introduce Australia-style six-team first-class system.

The approval of the new PCB constitution has paved way for other important decisions as well. Let it be known that the IPC had recommended in June this year to present the new constitution before the federal cabinet for approval.
