DI KHAN (Dunya News) – A burqa-clad female suicide bomber on Sunday morning killed four people and injured several others at the main gate of the Trauma Centre of District Headquarter Hospital in Kotlan Syedan on the outskirts of the northwestern city of Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
District police chief Salim Riaz told AFP that police were helping move the bodies of two of their colleagues – who had been shot dead by militants on Saturday – when the suicide bomber struck. Immediately, the injured persons were rushed to the CMH Hospital.
"The female bomber, aged around 28 years, came on foot and blew herself up, killing two policemen and four civilians and wounding 13 others," he said.
Earlier today, two policemen embraced martyrdom when terrorists stormed a security check-post in Kotla Syedan.
Meanwhile, terrorists managed to flee from the spot on a motorcycle after a heavy exchange of fire with the policemen.
According to Bomb Disposal Squad officials, around 7 to 8 kilograms of explosive material was used in the IED explosion.
Another local police official, Malik Habib, confirmed the attack and casualty figures and said officers later recovered the mutilated head of the bomber.
To prevent the situation from deteriorating further, security personnel cordoned off the site of the incident and launched search operation, and several police pickets have been set up at different locations in the region.
Further investigation into the incident is underway.
Pakistan has seen an improvement in security in recent years, but low-level attacks are still carried out with devastating regularity – often targeting security forces in the northwest and the tribal regions bordering Afghanistan.
