Talks between Faisalabad industrialists, FBR chairman fail

Industries of Faisalabad are on strike from last 18 days.
FAISALABAD (Dunya News) – Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Shabbar Zaidi has denied to accept the demand of reducing sales tax or end the condition of CNIC. The crisis has become severe as processing mills and power looms industry’s strike could not end.
As per details, the industries of Faisalabad are on strike from last 18 days and whole chain of textile sector is affected while closure of 60000 power looms unit has unemployed millions of workers.
A ten member delegation of industrialists along with four MNAs from Faisalabad met Chairman FBR in Islamabad and asked him to retract condition of CNIC and reduce sales tax.
Shabber Zaidi strictly denied to accept any of the demands and said sales tax would not be reduced to 16 % even. Zaidi said both these conditions would be strictly implemented from August 1.
The industrialists suggested to reduce withholding tax to 1% from 4.5% and turnover tax to 0.10% from 1.5%. Shabber Zaidi sought time to look into this.
