Rs24000bn Debt: Inquiry commission decides to summon record from all provinces in first meeting

ISLAMABAD (Dunya news) – The high-powered inquiry commission, formed to probe into the Rs24000 billion loans acquired in the last 10 years, held its first meeting in Islamabad on Wednesday.
The meeting was presided over by the head of the inquiry Hussain Asghar, a retired BS-22 officer and currently serving as National Accountability Bureau (NAB) deputy chairman, and attended by other members from NAB, FIA, IB, SBP, ISI, SECP, FBR, representative of Accountant General Pakistan Revenue, representative of Military Intelligence and special secretary from Finance Division as a secretary.
During the meeting, Special Finance Secretary briefed the meeting about foreign debts. The meeting also discussed the Terms of References (ToRs) for investigation regarding debt probe.
Speaking on the occasion, Hussain Asghar said that according to the directions of Prime Minister Imran Khan, the investigation should be transparent, adding that the team would investigate where the loans had been spent.
He said that the commission decided to summon record of all debts taken during the last 10 years from all provinces.
The commission will also investigate money spent on foreign travelling and healthcare.
Earlier this month, Prime Minister Imran Khan in his address to the nation had announced to form a high-powered inquiry commission to probe into the Rs24000 billion loans acquired in the last 10 years.
He said that the commission will comprise of officials from Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Intelligence Bureau (IB), Federal Investigation Authority (FIA), Security and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) and other departments.
Imran Khan said that he himself will oversee the high-powered inquiry commission’s investigations. “Do whatever you want to do, I will not spare you,” he said and added, “It doesn t matter if I die, will not spare these thieves.”
Lashing out at his rival, the prime minister said that they are not even ashamed of Pakistan’s current situation, adding that Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif s son and son-in-law have run out of the country.
He said: “Former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz and former president and Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari came to an agreement that each would rule for five years and "not say anything to each other".
