PM Imran seeks citizens' cooperation to counter tax evasion

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – In an important message to the nation today (Friday), Prime Minister Imran Khan sought public cooperation to stop tax evasion.
The Prime Minister stated that Pakistan is stuck in debt trap due to corruption and tax evasion. He said the country’s debt increased from Rs6,000 billion to Rs30,000 billion in the last ten years. Now, half of the tax money is being spent on interest payments of these loans.
He said the government has introduced a scheme for citizens to declare their assets till 30th June to take the country out of difficult economic situation.
The Prime Minister said the asset declaration gives people a golden chance to declare their stashed wealth within and abroad, gold and other assets. He said the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has complete record of all assets of the people and it is better if the people declare their assets without facing any difficulty.
PM Imran vowed to tackle the menace of corruption. However, the cooperation of people is needed in tax collection. He said unless public and government do not cooperate with each other, the debt trap will not end.
The Prime Minister said 5500 billion rupees are needed to be collected in taxes for the next year. He said Pakistanis are a generous nation and they have a history of contributing massively in national calamities. He said if the citizens cooperate, a sum of 8000 billion rupees can be collected each year.
ONLINE PORTAL INTRODUCED
Earlier today, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Syed Shabbar Zaidi announced that the revenue authority, in collaboration with the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), has introduced an online portal for the inquiry of assets.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Zaidi said that the application will not allow anyone to access the data of any other person except them.
