First Afghan peace conference 'Lahore Process' to be held tomorrow

President Arif Alvi will host a dinner in the honor of Afghan members whereas they will also meet Prime Minister Imran Khan.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The first Afghan peace conference called ‘Lahore Process’ will be held in Bhurban Murree tomorrow hosting important figures such as Afghan High Peace Council chairman Karim Khalili and Uzbek leader Rashid Dostum.

According to Dunya News, leaders of all major political parties of Afghanistan will attend the meeting. 57 delegates among 18 Afghan political parties will participate in the talks, including Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, Atta Muhammad Nur and other important figures. Afghan High Peace Council chairman Karim Khalili and Uzbek leader Rashid Dostum will also come to participate in the peace conference.

According to the sources, many Afghan senators and members of the Assembly will also participate in the conference. ‘Lahore Process’ will exchange talks about bilateral relations and future harmony. Different aspects of Afghan security will also be reviewed in the conference.

The conference will establish a relation of trust between the future governments.

According to Dunya News, the Afghan peace conference will provide an overview of the trade, health, connectivity and other sectors whereas repatriation of Afghan refugees is also expected in the conference. Talibans exemption in ‘Lahore Process’ can’t be considered as a possibility for future.

According to the sources, this conference holds importance as it has been taking place prior to Afghan President Ashraf Ghani visit to Pakistan. President Arif Alvi will host a dinner in the honor of Afghan members whereas they will also meet Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi will inaugurate the session. A number of former research ambassadors and think tanks will attend the conference.
