Zardari was not arrested for fighting for independent media or Kashmir struggle but for corruption.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rashid has said Asif Ali Zardari has been arrested for corrupt practices.
He said Zardari was not arrested for fighting for independent media or Kashmir struggle but for looting public money through fake accounts.
The firebrand politician said nine months were wasted as it was a weak case and NAB should have arrested him earlier. He said this is not an important issue but media is doing its duty to raise national issues.
Earlier, former president and Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari surrendered himself to a team of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) after Islamabad High Court (IHC) rejected Asif Ali Zardari and Faryal Talpur’s pre-arrest bail plea in the money laundering case.
Following the refusal of his pre-arrest bail, a team of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) accompanied by police personnel had reached the residence of PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari in order to arrest him.
PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Asifa Bhutto were present on the ocassion.
He will be taken to anti-graft watchdog s office in Rawalpindi and would be shifted to cell no 2 where he would be interrogated. The former president will be presented before the accountability court on Tuesday.
