China to grant 5G commercial-use licenses

The ministry will soon grant 5G licenses for commercial use and China will officially enter the year of 5G commercial use.
CHINA (Reuters) - China will soon grant 5G licenses for commercial use, the country’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said Monday.
According to the ministry, the global 5G networks are currently entering a critical period of commercial deployment. Adhering to the integration of independent innovation and open cooperation, China’s 5G industry has established a competitive advantage.
The standards of 5G networks are a set of unified international standards jointly developed by the global industry, with standards-essential patents declared by China accounting for more than 30 percent of the total, said the ministry.
Many foreign companies such as Nokia, Ericsson, Qualcomm and Intel, have been deeply involved in the phase of technical tests. With the joint efforts from all parties, China’s 5G network has possessed the foundation for commercial use, said the ministry.
The ministry will soon grant 5G licenses for commercial use and China will officially enter the year of 5G commercial use.
As always, China welcomes domestic and foreign enterprises to actively participate in the country’s 5G network building, as well as application and promotion, to jointly share the 5G development results of China, said the ministry.
