Supreme Court hears Pakistan Railways' land lease case.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan Thursday heard the case pertaining to the lease of land to the Royal Palm Golf and Country Club – owned by Pakistan Railways – at throwaway prices, and allowed Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed to present arguments.
Sheikh Rashid Ahmed told the apex court that the worth of the leased land is over Rs200 billion. Pakistan Railways paid Rs4.5 million fee to the counsel who is demanding Rs1 crore, he told the court.
Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed asked Sheikh Rashid Ahmed to come prepared in the next hearing so the case could be concluded. The top court summoned a copy from the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) of the reference that was filed against the Royal Palm Golf and Country Club.
The NAB prosecutor general informed the Supreme Court that the reference has been filed over the matter and indictment is yet to be announced.
The hearing was adjourned till next Thursday.
