Fake accounts case: Shabir Bambat, Jabbar Memon sent on 9-day physical remand.
KARACHI (Dunya News) – An accountability court Tuesday approved a nine-day physical remand of Shabir Bambat and Jabbar Memon, arrested in fake accounts case, and handed over the suspects to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
The NAB had requested the accountability court for 14-day physical remand. The NAB told the court that the suspects partnered with the Land Utilization Department and were involved in illegal allotments. The treasure suffered loss of Rs8 billion as a result, the NAB said.
It was further said that fake accounts were used for payments and the accused are partners of Pink Residency who was allotted the land. Shabir Bambat and Jabbar Memon were sent notices but they did not appear before the bureau, the NAB maintained.
The suspects’ counsel inquired about the source of the NAB’s evidences. He stated that how the NAB can produce such evidences which Sindh IG and the Supreme Court could not obtain.
The NAB prosecutor said more proofs can be required after the approval of physical remand. The suspects had been hiding for six months, he said.
