Mukhtaran Mai case: SC gives time to accused to hire lawyers

The court directed the suspects to appear before it on next hearing on March 27 with their lawyers.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News): A three-member bench of the Supreme Court (SC) headed by Justice Gulzar Ahamd on Wednesday took up for hearing Mukhtaran Mai review petition against the suspects’ acquittal.

Accused Allah Ditta, Fiyyaz and others were present in the court. At the inception of hearing, the accused informed the court that they could not hire counsel as they received notice the prior evening only.

The court gave time to accused in Mukhtaran Mai gang rape case to appoint legal counsel. The court while directing the suspects to appear before it on next hearing with their lawyers adjourned the hearing of the case till March 27.
