Pakistan has great potential for Information and Communication Technology sector: IT Minister

(Web Desk) - Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui has asserted that Pakistan has a great potential in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector.
He concluded his visit to Barcelona in Spain where he attended the GSMA ministerial programme and Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019, and said that digitally literate youths in Pakistan offer a great opportunity in terms of consumers.
During his three-day visit, Dr Siddiqui met several ministers, senior administrators of other governments, and senior officials of multilateral policy-making organizations for exchanging views regarding the potential of Pakistan’s ICT sector and the overall market.
He has also directed his team to present him a larger inclusion plan for IT companies in Pakistan through a National Level Exhibition for IT/Tech Firms through the support of government, so that the international community could visit Pakistan, and provide more opportunities to the local tech industry.
The minister also met Steven Yi, Senior Vice President of Middle East and Africa of Huawei, and requested him to expand their footprint in Pakistan and develop a regional support centre.
During the discussion, Huawei Management apprised him about their current operations in the country and expressed their willingness to expand its regional operations from Pakistan to support local and regional operations for creating new job opportunities in the country.
In another meeting with the Global CEO of VMware Pat Gelsinger, opportunities of bilateral interest were discussed in which Dr Siddiqui expressed his willingness for VMWare to invest in the human capital development in Pakistan.
