A R Rahman defends his daughter’s 'freedom to choose'

Rahman hit back at the denigrators emphasizing his daughter's right to choose

(Web Desk) – The music maestro of Bollywood A R Rahman recently came under fire by netizens when during the 10 year celebrations of Slum Dog Millionaire his daughter Khatija came on stage adorned in a Saree and a veil.

Rahman’s daughter Khatija, 23, spearheads the outreach programs at the A R Rahman foundation. Khatija involved in several projects supporting Tamil poetry and literature had a heart to heart conversation with her father on stage. She was quite proud of her father’s humility and the way he never changed despite winning the Oscars. Khatija expressed her love for her father, the way he brought them up and specially mentioned how deeply Rahman was inspired by the Prophet (P.B.U.H).

After the event A.R.Rahman got trolled by haters who criticized him for forcing his daughter to wear hijab.

Rahman hit back at the denigrators by posting picture of his wife and daughters emphasizing their freedom to choose how they want to dress up.

 After his post supporters appreciated Rahman and emphasized the right to choose.

Theres nothing to be sad about .. its her choice .. i can say i feel bad for the girls who have to wear revealing dresses to get attention of others .. but we live in India .. we have the right to choose wat to wear n wat not to wear .. im no one to comment .. ty n sorry

Khatija herself posted on social media, "The recent conversation of myself on stage with my dad has been doing the rounds although I didn’t expect such an overwhelming response. However, there were certain comments which said that this attire is being forced by my dad and that he has double standards. I would like to personally clarify to my followers and my non followers on Instagram that the attire I wear of the choices I make in my life does not have anything to do with my parents. The veil has been my personal choice with complete acceptance and honour. I’m a same mature adult who knows to make my choices in life. Any human being has a choice to wear or do what he/she wants and that’s what I’ve been doing. Hence, kindly don’t make your own judgements without understanding the exact situation. #freedomofchoice”
