KDA demolishes more than 200 houses, shops built on drain in Korangi

KARACHI (Dunya News) - Karachi Development Authority (KDA) on Thursday demolished more than 500 illegal structures in different areas of Karachi.
The operation of KDA state and enforcement cell continued on second day during which more than 200 shops, stores and other encroachment constructed mainly on drains were razed down in Karachi’s Korangi area.
Enraged residents tried to obstruct the process but faced baton charging from police.
The residents pleaded the authorities to halt the operation but their request bore no fruit as KDA vowed that the anti-encroachment operation in Korangi would continue till the removal of all encroachments.
Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) anti-encroachment cell also bulldozed encroachments on Hawks Bay road through heavy machinery.
Four people were taken into custody on showing resistance against the operation.
Moreover, several encroachments, sun shades and bill boards were pulled down in Gulshan-i-Iqbal.
