Railway is suffering deficit not losses, Saad Rafique's lawyer tells SC

Saad’s advocate Kamran Murtaza claimed that there is no irregularity, inefficiency in Audit Paras.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – National Accountability Bureau (NAB) official on Wednesday produced former minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique before the Supreme Court (SC), and the leader submitted the reply of the Audit Paras of Railways in suo moto case against him.
A three-judge bench headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar heard the case against now Member of National Assembly (MNA) Saad Rafique.
Saad Rafique’s Counsel Kamran Murtaza said that there is no irregularity or inefficiency in the Audit Paras.
The top judge inquired that if there is no irregularity or inefficiency in the Audit Paras how did Railway suffered loss?
Advocate Kamran Murtaza replied that Railway Ministry is suffering deficit not losses and this deficit is not new but prevailing since 65 years.
During the hearing, ex- minister Saad Rafique sought appreciation from CJP for lessening, during his stint, an over Rs. 20 million of total Rs. 50.80 million burden on Government paid by it under pension head, which (Rs. 20 million) was later afforded by Railways itself. The CJP linked the tribute to final outcome of the case.
Earlier, the Accountability Court (AC) had handed over Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khawaja Saad
Rafique and his brother Salman Rafique to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on 10-day physical remand.
On December 11, NAB had arrested Khawaja brothers in the Lahore s Paragon Housing Society.
It is pertinent here to mention that on April 7, 2018, the top judge had taken suo moto notice on Rs60 million loss in railway.
