AC approves one-day transit remand for Shehbaz Sharif

The leader of opposition in National Assembly was sent to jail in the previous hearing.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Accountability Court (AC) on Monday has granted one-day transit bail to Leader of Opposition in National Assembly and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president Shehbaz Sharif to attend the National Assembly session to be held today.

The home department today produced Shehbaz Sharif before the Accountability Court, seeking his transit remand. A police team would escort Shehbaz to Islamabad where he would attend National Assembly session.

Shehbaz Sharif was sent to jail on judicial remand court had rejected NAB request for further extension in his physical custody in the previous hearing.

Recently, NA Speaker Asad Qaiser had issued a production order of the PML-N president to enable the leader of the opposition to attend the upcoming session of the lower house of parliament starting from Monday. 


Allegations against Sharif


Sharif is accused of ordering the cancellation of award of contract of Ashiana-i-Iqbal to successful bidder Chaudhry Latif and Sons, and engineering the award of the contract to Lahore Casa Developers, a proxy group of Paragon City Private Limited, which resulted in the loss of approximately Rs193 million.

He is also accused of directing the Punjab Land Development Company (PLDC) to assign the Ashiana-i-Iqbal project to the Lahore Development Authority (LDA), resulting in the award of contract to Lahore Casa Developers, causing a loss of Rs715m and the ultimate failure of the project.

NAB has also accused Sharif of directing the PLDC to award the consultancy services of the Ashiana-i-Iqbal project to Engineering Consultancy Services Punjab (ECSP) for Rs 192m while the actual cost was supposed to be Rs35m as quoted by Nespak.
