Muhammad Salman had won against Qureshi from PP-217 (Multan-VII) constituency.
MULTAN (Dunya News) – A bench of the Lahore High Court Friday restored the membership of an independent candidate who had defeated Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi in the July 25 general election.
Muhammad Salman had bagged 35294 votes against Shah Mehmood Qureshi, who managed to get 31716 in PP-217 (Multan-VII) constituency election on July 25.
His victory, however, was short-lived as the Election Commission of Pakistan disqualified him on a petition filed by voters Shoaib Akmal Qureshi and Tahir Hameed Qureshi, who claimed Salman did not meet age requirements at the time of the polling.
“According to National Database Registration Authority (Nadra) records, Muhammad Salman was under 25 years and thus not eligible to contest the election,” the electoral commission said. It also ordered re-election in the constituency.
Salman, who later joined the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, moved the LHC Multan bench against the ECP verdict, which suspended the decision and summoned explanation from all the parties involved in the case.
