Durrani's resignation comes in reaction to suspension of notification to replace Punjab police chief

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police chief and Chief of Police Reforms Commission Nasir Khan Durrani on Tuesday resigned from his post.

Durrani s resignation comes in reaction to the suspension of notification to replace Punjab police chief Tahir Khan with Amjad Javed Saleem by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

The notification was cancelled after Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice (R) Sardar Muhammad Raza who took notice of federal government’s decision to replace Punjab police chief Tahir Khan.

Earlier today, Amjad Javed Saleemi, a BS-22 officer currently serving as Commandant in National Police Academy under Interior Division, was appointed as new Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP).

The ECP had also sought reply from Punjab Chief Secretary regarding the replacement of the IGP. Establishment Division had also issued a notification in this regard.

It is pertinent to mention here that the ECP had banned all kind of transfers and replacements in government departments till the by-elections.

In September, former inspector general of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police, Nasir Khan Durrani, was appointed chairman of the Commission on Police Reforms and Implementation that was formed on the directions of Prime Minister Imran Khan to steer Punjab police out of political interference.
